International News: In a major international development, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an additional 100 per cent tariff on Chinese goods, signaling the beginning of a new phase in the ongoing trade tensions between the two countries. Following Trump’s decision, China reacted strongly, accusing the United States of adopting “double standards.” A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce called the U.S. move a clear example of unfair trade behavior, saying it goes against the spirit of balanced economic cooperation.
The Ministry of Commerce stated that these actions have seriously damaged China’s interests and weakened the environment for economic and trade discussions between the two sides. The spokesperson added that “threatening to impose additional tariffs at every turn is not the right way to engage in talks with China.”
It is noteworthy that U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he would impose an additional 100 per cent tariff on Chinese goods, effective from November 1. Trump said this step was taken in response to China’s new restrictions on the export of rare metals. Currently, Chinese goods are subject to a 30 percent U.S. tariff, but after the new tariffs take effect on November 1, the total rate on Chinese goods will rise to approximately 130 per cent.
After the U.S. decision to impose an additional 100 per cent tariff, a trade war has reignited between the two countries. China has accused the U.S. of following double standards with this move. Experts warn that if tensions between the world’s two largest economies continue to rise, the impact could be felt on other economies around the world as well.
